In light of the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, in this special report I focus exclusively on analyzing Adam Lanza’s psyche, exposing what I believe may have been a fatal misdiagnosis of his real condition. I reveal that, contrary to what was once believed, mounting evidence shows that autism and schizophrenia can in fact exist side by side. Had he been properly diagnosed as scizophrenic, this tragedy may very well have been averted.
What is most alarming is the fact that many psychiatrists and mental health clinicians make this common diagnostic error. And, as the world has seen, this mistkake has the potential to be catastrophically fatal. I urge clinicians and guidance counselors to receive ongoing diagnostic training and education so that this type of oversight never occurs again.
I also illustrate how Adam Lanza, in his own twisted way, can be seen as the messenger who was sent to ring a five alarm fire bell for the world. Even those of us who are not mentally ill can be taught a valuable lesson about the dangers of bottled up and acted out our anger.
