I am 14 years old. I have read your advice archives, but have not found a solution to my problem. I am actually not sure If this is a problem. When I have an erection, I imagine that my penis will stick out hard and firm straight out from my body, forming a 90 degree angle against my torso. However, when I have a erection, my penis gets hard and longer, but goes upwards against my stomach. Sometimes I try to push my penis down into an 90 degree angle, and it is slightly painful. I would like to know why this occurs. When I get erections (usually not with anyone near me), and I need to walk out somewhere in public or with people seeing me, I put my penis upwards, not downwards, but so my shirt and pants are covering it. I think this may be a cause of my problem (if it is one).I just think this is a problem because when I am older if I want to experience sexual intercourse, I think I may have a problem ‘pointing in the right direction’. I hope there is a solution to this problem, whether it be practical, or just ‘all in my head’.
Your penis is absolutely normal.First of all, young men are supposed to have erections that go \upwards\ as you say. As men get older, erections commonly do not reach the same heights. A penis that reaches a 90 degree angle (parallel with the floor if the man is standing up) is more common in men over 40. It is common for the erections of even older men to have even less arc.It is believed that this decline is related to diminished blood flow to the penis. Of course, if a man is in good shape, eats well and has unclogged arteries, it is conceivable that the young men of today will not experience the same \penis aging\ that has been observed in previous generations. You also spoke about being concerned that the way you are placing your penis is your pants could account for what you fear is the wrong position of your penis when you become erect. First of all, I remind you again that your erect penis is exactly that way its supposed to be. Second, the way you place your penis in your pants will have no effect on the position your position takes when it becomes erect. An erection is an involuntary (happens on its own) function. As you have indicated, your penis has a mind of its own. It gets erect when it wants to and often for no apparent reason. Erections that come out of nowhere are called spontaneous erections, and it is normal for young men to experience them. So don’t be surprised to find that reading the newspaper or standing in a stiff breeze (no pun intended) can be an uplifting experience. This is all normal. As men age, they experience less and less spontaneous erections. I understand that you want to hide your spontaneous erections. You certainly can do this. And, it doesn’t matter how you place your penis in your pants, so long as you are comfortable. You should never again try to force you penis into a position that goes against the grain. And, don’t worry, placing it upwards will have no effect on the position your penis takes when you do become erect. The position that a penis takes upon erection is also a completely involuntary process. I hope that you feel better. You have a prize winning penis. Leave the poor thing in peace.
